Had a few more games against Gavin and his wood elves, one ended up in a 20 loss and the other was aboot a 15-5 win. Strangely enough, the army that I won with was just an army I thought I would use for wees and giggles. The main focus was a big sixty man longbeard ranger squad with Master Rune of Grugni, shields, and GW's, along with 29 hammers, BSB, gyrocopter, two organ guns, cannon and an Anvil of doom.
What basically happened was my army just sat and watched my longbeards just anvil charge into everything (I scouted them right behind the entire wood elf army and then anviled them into the Treekin, after that it was all down hill for the pointy ears!) While my cannon shot a few stuff and my organ guns waited in false anticipation. But my gyro did managed to burn an entire unit of archers, and also manged to run down a great eagle and another unit of archers. I used my hammerers to simply guard my Anvil while, but in hindsight I should have used them to support the longbeards. Battle of the Pass was the scenario so it did sorta help play into my plan of using my longbeards for the entire push while everything else was point filler. But they did die and 855pts were given up lol.
I figure the only reason this army worked was because of how the wood elves are played, but in any other circumstance, most other armies would have just brushed the longbeards off.
As for the other game, we played Meeting Engagement, and every dice roll I did for deployment was just crap. All the warmachines ended up in a corner, while one warriors block was in the other, needless to say I just played in a "Balls to the wall and just 'ran it' at the elves.
Though, the Highborn on Dragon is pretty meaty, the dragon its self has a 3+ ward! It managed to kill an organ gun, grudge thrower, cannon, and a group of warriors!
